Residents in the area of Great Beaver Lake – about 112 km northwest of Prince George - will be able to return home, after an evacuation order for the area was downgraded to an evacuation alert on Tuesday.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George issued the evacuation order for the area on July 12, due to a wildfire. The order applied to the Great Beaver Lake, Tureen Lake, Teardrop Lake and Bugle Lake area of Electoral Area G in the regional district.

While residents and seasonal area users are allowed to return, they should be prepared to leave on short notice, have a 72-hour personal emergency kit ready, have important documents and valuable ready to move, make arrangements for pets and livestock to be moved to a safe location if another evacuation order is issued.

Updates will be provided on the Regional District website and the district's Facebook page.
