The city has cancelled an evacuation alert for residents of Farrell Street. Paddlewheel Park remains closed.

Receding water levels on the Fraser River promoted the City of Prince George to rescind an evacuation alert for residents of Farrell Street on Monday.

The water level at the province's South Fort George monitoring peaked at 9.5 metres on Saturday, and has steadily dropped.

As of Monday afternoon, the water level on the Fraser was just above nine metres. Basements in the area may start to flood when the river level exceeds nine metres.

On Monday, the city cancelled the state of local emergency in the area.

"The City of Prince George will continue daily monitoring of the rivers as the spring freshet continues," a statement issued by the city said. "The City encourages residents to use caution whenever walking near the rivers, particularly during periods of increased water levels."

Paddlewheel Park and the bridges in Cottonwood Island Park remain closed. The section of the Heritage River Trail from east of the riverboat launch to Taylor Drive north of Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park is also closed.

Nechako Riverside Park, McMillan Creek Fishing Park and Hazelton Park are currently open.
