Police found themselves apprehending the same man twice in one day Wednesday with Mounties deploying a Taser in the first arrest and a dog in the second, Prince George RCMP said.
According to a press release from the detachment, it all began when police were called to a report of a domestic assault at a Corless Crescent home just before 2:30 a.m. The suspect fled before police had arrived, but at 6:45 a.m. general duty members discovered he had returned to the home - the alleged victim had already been removed for her safety - where he became combative and tried to disarm an officer.
"Given his actions and behaviours, a conducted energy weapon was used by the officers to help affect the arrest," RCMP said.
The suspect was taken into custody and then taken to hospital for mental and physical assessment and treatment of injuries unrelated to the arrest. But by 11:36 a.m., he had fled on foot and a police dog and handler were called in to track him down.
About 45 minutes later, he was apprehended and taken back to hospital for continued treatment of his injuries, which now included bite wounds.
Police are recommending Crown counsel charge the suspect with assault, resisting arrest, attempting to disarm a police officer and escaping unlawful custody.
The 23-year-old suspect is originally from Fort Ware, but now resides in Prince George. His name was not released Wednesday because charges against him had not yet been approved.
