The city has activated its emergency operations centre in anticipating of flooding along the banks of the Nechako and Fraser Rivers.

No flooding has struck yet and the centre is at its lowest alert level, city officials said Monday.

Significantly higher than usual snowpack in area mountains combined with warm weather has prompted the alert.

"The degree and severity of flood risk is contingent on snow melt conditions, temperature and rain events through this week and into June," officials said.

This week, the Prince George fire department will notify property owners and residents who may be affected.
