Prince George Community Policing and the City of Prince George were thinking outside the box when they unveiled their latest community beautification project.
A photo of children playing soccer now covers the city electrical box at the corner of Ospika Boulevard and 15th Avenue instead of graffiti and old posters. Community Policing coordinator Linda Parker said this is the third electrical box which Community Policing and the City of Prince George have decorated with a printed vinyl cover - but the seventh in the city.
"All the other four were done by the Ministry of Transportation," Parker said. "From a community policing prospective, it's a crime prevention initiative."
The artistic covers discourage vandalism by creating a sense of place and community pride, she said.
Funding for the covers was provided by the city's transportation department and a Community Enhancement Grant from Community's in Bloom, Parker said.
"It's nice to have a piece of city infrastructure, that has been the target of vandalism in the past, turned into something attractive," Clark said. "The ones that have been done are graffiti free."
The photo was donated by local photography firm WD West Studios and the cover printed locally as well, Parker said.
