Despite John Horgan’s NDP victory in October’s snap election, outstanding votes are still to be counted with final results expected to be released in the second week of November.
According to a news release issued by Elections BC on Wednesday (Nov. 4), preparations are nearing completion for the final count of the 662,236 mail-in and other absentee ballots.
The final count is scheduled to begin across the province on Friday (Nov. 6) and is expected to take at least three days to complete.
The day before the election on Oct. 23, Elections BC received an estimated 497,900 vote-by-mail packages, representing approximately 69 per cent of the 724,279 issued vote-by-mail packages.
Elections BC notes these figures do not represent the final number of absentee and mail-in ballots that will be counted in each district.
All certification envelopes must be screened before being accepted for counting to ensure legislated requirements are met, and to prevent multiple voting.
Starting at 10 a.m. on Friday, voting results will be updated as counting progresses at results.elections.bc.ca.
A report on the Elections BC website will show the number of certification envelopes that have been considered in each district, and the total number of envelopes to be considered.
