The number of people in Prince George and area collecting Employment Insurance stood at 1,770 in June, according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada, released this week.
That's up from 1,450 by the same point last year and from 1,750 in July.
Indeed, the numbers have been on an upswing since bottoming out at 1,390 in November 2014.
In August, the city's unemployment rate stood at 7.7 per cent, three percentage points higher than for the same month the previous year.
The number of people holding down jobs was 48,200, compared to 52,500 in August 2014, while the total looking for work added up to 4,000 compared to 2,600 the year before.
As well, the number of people of working age not seeking work was 19,500, up from 16,100 the year before.
The numbers did show a slight improvement from July, when the unemployment rate was 7.8 per cent, 47,200 were working, 4,000 were seeking work and 20,500 were not participating.
