Earth Day is an annual event in April with various activities held all over the world in support of environmental protection.
First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events now take place in more than 193 countries each year.
This year's campaign is focused on environmental and climate literacy in helping people become fluent in concepts of climate change, global citizenry and other threats to the planet.
Terri McClymont, the executive director at REAPS, is thrilled to take part in another Earth Day to help spread awareness of the importance of sustaining the environment.
"This is our 20th year taking part and with every Earth Day, it's a day where we can embrace the environment and look at ways of looking after it," McClymont said.
"It's all about our connection with land, water and air and we want to promote the importance of this connection."
REAPS will also be kicking off their annual Spring Clean-up on Earth Day, which will take place on Sunday, April 30, encouraging residents to pick up litter across the city.
"It's one big playground out there and we need to look after it," McClymont said.
