Smoking was the cause of a fire at the former North Star Inn at 1550 Victoria Street early Monday morning, Prince George Fire Rescue reports.
Crews from four fire halls were on the scene as thick black smoke was coming from one of the units in the multi-unit residential building.
Firefighters went in and quickly put out the flames.
An occupant was asleep and had been woken up by the smoke alarm. The person was treated for minor smoke inhalation at the scene.
Damage to the unit and its contents was estimated at $5,000.
