A dust advisory was issued Tuesday afternoon for the city.

High concentrations of coarse particulate matter that are expected to persist until there is precipitation or the streets are cleared of traction material, according to the advisory, issued by the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Northern Health.

Individuals may experience such symptoms as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

Exposure to air pollution is particularly a concern for children, the elderly, and those who have underlying medical conditions such as lung or heart disease.

Levels tend to be highest around busy roads and industrial operations.

The advisory is in effect until further notice.
