A duplex fire that sent two people to hospital last weekend has been tentatively linked to an electrical problem, according to deputy fire chief John Iverson.

The fire broke out shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday at a duplex in the 1400 block of McCullough Avenue. One person was able to escape the blaze, while another had to be rescued by firefighters.

"It's been deemed electrical, but we're working on confirmation from the electrical inspector," Iverson said.

Fire inspectors did determine the fire is not suspicious, he added.

Iverson did not have new information about the status of the two people taken to hospital. However, he said, they were not believed to have suffered serious injuries in the fire.

Damage to the home was estimated $50,000.
