When your hydro bill is $2,600 per month, for a common residential duplex, it is going to make authorities wonder if you have a grow-op.
On Wednesday, Prince George RCMP found almost 1,000 marijuana plants in various stages of growth at a duplex in the 3900 block of Second Avenue. The plantation infested both halves of the duplex.
There were also 20 pounds of dried marijuana seized from the site, and two Prince George men, aged 31 and 32, who were arrested.
"Over 40 high-output lights were used between the two residences, which resulted in a BC Hydro bill of approximately $1,300 per month, per half duplex," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.
"BC Hydro attended to assist with disconnecting the grow operation and Fortis BC also attended as a result of the gas line being altered to feed two carbon dioxide generators in the residences," he added. "Dangerous electrical wiring, altered gas lines and mould have led City of Prince George by-law officers to declared these residences uninhabitable."
The two men have been released on a promise to appear for court proceedings at a later date. Drug production and trafficking charges are pending.
