A Prince George man was assessed $5,000 in fines and a one-year driving prohibition for a wild and drunken motorcycle ride that ended with the bike and a passenger down on the road.

Tyler Cyril Rosoman, 44, was issued the penalties Wednesday in Prince George provincial court after the court heard a police officer saw him shortly before midnight on March 31, 2012 riding his Harley erratically west along Third Avenue.

Rosoman was twice clocked at 102 km/h in a 50 km/h zone before he pulled his bike into the oncoming lane. He then braked hard, the front end shook back and forth, the bike hit a curb and went down along its side.

Rosoman went down on the ground but got up and walked away while a passenger remained on the ground, the court was told. Rosoman later blew .260 and .250 for alcohol, roughly three times the legal limit.

Rosoman pleaded guilty to driving while impaired, resisting a peace officer under the Criminal Code and driving without reasonable consideration under the Motor Vehicle Act and was fined $2,000, $1,000 and $2,000 respectively on the charges for $5,000 in total.

Charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and driving with a blood-alcohol level over .08 were stayed. In issuing the fines and the one-year driving prohibition, Judge Dan Weatherly agreed with a joint submission from Crown and defence counsels.

Rosoman made a living hauling lumber from Plateau sawmill in Vanderhoof to Port Edward but will now have to find a new job, the court was told. He had taken the Harley out because it was the first sunny day of the season, the court also heard.
