A half-dozen drivers lost their driving privileges over Friday and Saturday nights because they had too much to drink.

Three were issued 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions with a 30-day vehicle impoundment while one was given a seven-day IRP and two were given three-day IRPs, Prince George RCMP said. As well, one driver was issued a 24-hour suspension for impairment by drugs.

Meanwhile, 142 drivers avoided the predicament by getting hold of Operation Red Nose volunteers to take them and their vehicles home after an evening of celebrating.

Saturday the busier of the two at 95 rides.

"Overall, it was a great weekend," ORN spokesperson Andrea Johnson said. "As Saturday wore on, there was a steady stream of calls from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. Wait times were minimal and roads were good."

As of Friday, ORN had 219 volunteers and was searching for more, especially for New Year's Eve. The deadline to apply is Dec. 19 and the place to start is online at www.ornpg.ca.

ORN is back on the road this Friday and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Number to call is 250-962-RIDE (7433).

Police will also be back out on those nights, RCMP said.
