A winter storm warning has been issued for the Yellowhead Highway east of Prince George, from Tête Jaune Cache to the Alberta Border, as hazardous winter conditions are expected to persist through Saturday evening.
The warning, which took effect Friday morning, calls for heavy snowfall and reduced visibility, creating dangerous driving conditions along the highway. The Pacific frontal system is bringing snow to the BC Interior, with light snow expected to intensify by late afternoon. The snow will continue into the evening, with another weather system reinforcing the snowfall overnight.
Snowfall accumulation is expected to vary significantly along the highway. Western sections, including areas near Robson and Tête Jaune Cache, could see up to 25 cm of snow. Meanwhile, eastern sections are forecasted to receive 10 to 15 cm. Rapidly accumulating snow may make travel difficult, and visibility could be suddenly reduced during heavy snowfalls.
Drivers are urged to adjust to winter driving conditions and use winter tires and chains for safety. Mountain weather conditions can change quickly, increasing the risk of hazardous driving. For up-to-date road conditions, travelers are encouraged to visit DriveBC.ca.
Anyone encountering severe weather is encouraged to report it to [email protected] or share reports using #BCStorm on social media.
