Drivers were being reminded to be ready for winter when a road check was up and running Tuesday morning west of the city.

Members of the RCMP, Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure were handing out information and offering tips.

Here's a look:

- For your vehicle, install winter tires, have a vehicle maintenance check, change your wiper blades to winter blades, fill the windshield wiper reservoir, ensure the snow and ice is removed from all windows, lights, mirrors, hood and roof.

- Maintain a safe following distance. The posted speed limit is the maximum speed for ideal road conditions.

- Slow down and drive for the road conditions. Keep at least four seconds distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

- Check current road conditions and weather forecast. Plan your router ahead of time. Leave in plenty of time so you are not rushing.

- Being prepared and planning ahead could save you problems when you are driving.
