RCMP believe alcohol and speed played a role in the death of a 37-year-old Fort Fraser man whose pickup truck went off a bridge and into the Nautley River early Sunday morning.

The man, whose name was not released, was the vehicle's lone occupant, RCMP said.

Shortly before the crash, Fraser Lake RCMP, who were called to the scene at about 1 a.m., received a report of an impaired driver on the Nautley reserve, about 140 kilometres west of Prince George, in a vehicle matching the description of the one they later found on its roof in the river.

"The investigation is ongoing, however alcohol and speed are being considered as causal factors in this fatal crash," RCMP said.
