Drive to keep warm and dry

For the past 17 years, more than 10,000 winter coats have been given away in Prince George to people in need through the annual Coats For Kids campaign.

For the past 17 years, more than 10,000 winter coats have been given away in Prince George to people in need through the annual Coats For Kids campaign.

Spotless Cleaners owner Richard Heighington is again asking the public to bring in any unused winter outwear to any of his sites located at 1321 15th Ave., 2030 Fifth Ave., or 1699 Spruce St. from Wednesday through Saturday.

"We only take outer winter garments: coats, jackets, ski suits, winter pants, toques, mittens and scarves," said Richard, noting the garments are all cleaned and then distributed to charitable organizations like Salvation Army, Active Support Against Poverty, the Transition Home, Native Bands, and anyone else who is in need.

The Spotless Cleaners campaign was established years ago when the company was seeking a community project that could be sustained, and since then the number of local donations have ranged between 500 and 1,200 garments annually.

Outerwear can be dropped off at any one of the three Spotless Cleaners stores: 3121-15th Avenue, 2030-5th Ave. or 1699-17th Ave.

Donations are being accepted until Nov. 20.
