The end of January just got a little tastier.

Some of Prince George's finest tastemakers are putting their wares on special offer for an eight day event at the second annual

Winterlicious which runs Jan. 20 to 28.

The 2012 edition of the Downtown Business Improvement Association (DBIA) event will once again feature restaurants offering

special fixed price menus.

"Some of the best restaurants we have in the city are located in the downtown area," said Linda Self, general manager of the DBIA.

"The intention is so that people will come down and try a restaurant where they might not be able to afford it. But if there's a three-course meal being offered for $25 and it's somewhere they've never been, we're hoping that they'll find that affordable and lead them to check it out."

The Prince George Citizen is the print

sponsor for the event for the second year and "We're really thrilled to be a part of another event in which residents can know how many wonderful restaurants we have in Prince George," said The Citizen's director of

advertising, Lu Verticchio.

While the event was held over two weeks at the end of February to the beginning of March in 2011, this year it takes place over one week at the same time as the Coldsnap music

festival.

"This year we're holding it in conjunction with Coldsnap to try and accommodate people who are going to Coldsnap events where they may want to go out for dinner first. So we're hoping that will attract them to downtown and [to] participate in the Winterlicious menus," said Self.

Verticchio agreed that it was beneficial to have the music and food event on at the same time, allowing people to fully explore what the downtown core has to offer, "from great restaurants to entertainment venues to retail and service businesses. There's a lot more to downtown Prince George than what people think."

Winterlicious is similar to restaurant festivals such as Dine Out Vancouver and

Summerlicious in Toronto.

Lunch and dinner menus in Prince George range from soup and sandwich deals to three-course dinners, with lunch priced at $12, $15 or $20 and dinner at $25, $35 or $45.

Confirmed restaurants include Cariboo Steakhouse, Cimo's, Coffee Garden, Hummus Brothers, Margo's Cafe, Nancy O's, North 54, Ramada, Ric's Grill, Twisted Cork, Winston's Dining Rooms, Zoe's Java House, Mabuhay, Riley's, Spicy Greens and White Goose Bistro.

Self recommends making reservations for dinner outings and to be sure to ask for the Winterlicious feature sheet at restaurants.
