Put on some plaid and support the city's downtown merchants and eateries.
That's the idea behind Plaid Friday, set for tomorrow as a way to encourage shoppers to "think local" heading into the holiday season.
Due to the pandemic, it will be scaled down from past years, but there will still be in-store promotions and bargains to be found, said Downtown Prince George executive director Colleen Van Mook.
It's the fifth year DPG has hosted the event.
“In the past, we've had Plaid Friday headquarters, we've had carolers in the streets and Santa but we're just trying to work with what's already out there," Van Mook said. "Most of our stores already have adjusted and have the protocols in place so safe and loving local is what we're encouraging for downtown."
Why plaid? The pattern represents the weaving together of the threads of small businesses into a strong fabric that celebrates the diversity and creativity of what you can find downtown. Plus, it's pretty much the uniform of northern B.C.
Details on what you can find are posted at downtownpg.com and merchants' specials will be posted on the DPG Facebook page.
