A place of worship in Prince George is appealing for donations to help replace its aging roof.

St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church says, after doing minor repairs and careful monitoring for years, if it keeps waiting, there'll be a risk of permanent damage to the downtown building.

As a result, it's now launched a "Raise the Roof" campaign in hopes of hitting a $400,000 goal needed for an A-frame roof replacement.

“St. Michael and All Angels enriches Prince George through its roles in the community," Raise the Roof Campaign chairperson Ann Godon said in a statement.

“We embrace our location as a downtown church and have opened our doors as not only a place of worship, but as a home for the arts, non-profit secular groups, and most recently, the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation”.

Through savings, grants and pledges, the church has already raised half of the funds needed.

“We are reaching out to anyone who has an interest in this downtown icon and its programs to help us reach our fundraising goal," Peoples' Warden at St. Michaels Marie Hay adds.

The church hopes to begin the repairs in the spring.

If you wish to contribute to the campaign, you're asked to visit the St. Michael and All Angels Church website.
