Site preparations are underway downtown for a $40 million hotel and luxury condominium project.
According to developer Rod McLeod, an announcement will be made Monday about the build, including which flag the new hotel will carry.
When it was announced in April 2012, the development in the RCMP parking lot next to the Bob Harkins branch of the Prince George Public Library was said to be a 12-storey building featuring 151 hotel rooms, 34 condo units, a restaurant, lounge and retail space.
The lot has been lost in the interim.
"We're going to be using several city properties in the area to relocate some of that off-street parking that is being lost by the work that's being done there," said city public safety and civic facilities director Rob Whitwham. "We've also secured some private private parking in the area that we will utilize for that."
The on-street parking for patrol cars on 10th Avenue is not affected.
The interim change can't be helped, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass. "Ultimately, we realize it's a short-term thing," he said. "We'll persevere."
How short a term the switch is has yet to be determined as completion of the new police station might not meet its scheduled late-October goal.
"It may be delayed," said Whitwham. "So right now we're working with the general contractor to confirm dates and we're also looking at all options to stay on schedule."
