A former senior city staffer has found a new home downtown.

Colleen Van Mook is the new executive director of the Downtown Business Improvement Association (Downtown Prince George).

"I am excited about the opportunity to work with Downtown Prince George and along with many great partners, to build on our successes, so we can achieve a healthier, more vibrant and sustainable downtown," Van Mook said, in a press release.

In their announcement, the Downtown PG board touted Van Mook's "great depth of experience" as well as her "strong leadership, passion and community relationships" that were "instrumental in leading the team that brought the 2015 Canada Winter Games bid to success."

Van Mook's career with the city ended in February 2014 when she was let go from her position as director of community services and the department was disbanded in a sweeping management overhaul at city hall by former city manager Beth James.

"The board is eager to welcome Colleen to this leadership position and we look forward to her building on the progress we have made in recent years to make downtown a great place for businesses to locate and for the community to eat, shop, stay and play," said Downtown PG president Eoin Foley, in a press release.

Van Mook replaces Carla Johnston, who originated the role (previously, there had been a general manager) in November 2013.
