The Prince George RCMP are warning residents about an ongoing charity scam.
An adult female is canvassing local neighbourhoods and fraudulently soliciting donations for a reputable national charity.
Checks with this charity have confirmed the suspect is not affiliated with the organization and is not passing on donations to them.
A key identifying factor is that the suspect is not in possession of official pledge sheets or receipt books issued by the charity in question.
Police are reminding the public to ask canvassers for identification to prove their affiliation with their respective charity and that legitimate canvassers will not be offended by this request.
"This type of fraud is unusual and should not deter residents from donating to reputable charities of their choice," said police spokesperson Cpl. Craig Douglass.
Anyone with information about this criminal offence is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-561-3300 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
