A small dog left to die in a diaper box was found near Copper River in Terrace.

Police are asking for the public's help in finding those responsible.

Police were flagged down during a traffic stop on Highway 16 by a person who said they were walking their dog when they found the abandoned little dog.

"We estimate the dog had been left for at least two days. He was still alive, but barely," said Cst. Aaron Muzzerall, West Pacific Traffic Services.

"An animal should never be treated this badly and have to suffer like this. Owning a pet comes with it a responsibility to take care of it."

Police took the dog to a Kitimat veterinarian.

The dog was very dehydrated, had an eye infection and other health complications that led to the dog being euthanized.
