A City of Prince George internal staff notice obtained by The Citizen has revealed the full extent of the layoffs announced by city council on Jan. 17.
A total of 28 positions were eliminated, including nine layoffs, as part of nearly $1.68 million in staffing cuts. The cuts came as part of $1.99 million in reductions aimed at limiting city tax increases to 3.12 per cent.
A staff notice dated Jan. 17 lists the layoffs, internal transfers needed to achieve the $1.68 million reduction.
Laid off were a transportation engineer, electrical supervisor, parks planner, environmental co-ordinator, community policing co-ordinator, multi-media co-ordinator, part-time urban forester and a quality engagement specialist.
The positions of manager of environmental services, manager of social development and chief engineer were eliminated. The employees who held those positions were transferred to other positions in the organization.
Vacant positions eliminated included: six part-time, seasonal parks employees; environmental co-ordinator - utilities; CN Centre operations supervisor; Civic Centre assistant foreman; Civic Centre promotional business development co-ordinator; community events coordinator; supervisor of financial planning; safety assistant; confidential assistant to the city manager; long-range planner; the manager of community planning; a second community policing co-ordinator; and a second part-time urban forester position.
