It was TV host and do-it-yourself guru Bryan Baeumler's Godfather III moment.
The job started as the innocent renovation of a second-storey home office for the face of HGTV's Disaster DIY. But, whenever he thought he was out, the project pulled him back in.
"We worked a lot of old turn-of-the-century homes - and that usually means getting in a lot deeper than you anticipated," said Baeumler. "(The office job) turned into ripping the entire second floor off of the house and restructuring it from the inside, all the while keeping the ceilings of the main floor intact. It definitely wasn't the $10,000, two week job we anticipated ..."
