Dix, Alpay honoured by province

Prince George residents Judy Dix and Selen Alpay were two of 32 British Columbians honoured at the 11th annual British Columbia Community Achievement Awards ceremony held at Government House in Victoria on Tuesday.

Prince George residents Judy Dix and Selen Alpay were two of 32 British Columbians honoured at the 11th annual British Columbia Community Achievement Awards ceremony held at Government House in Victoria on Tuesday.

Selen was acknowledge for her support of a wide range of local organizations including Elizabeth Fry Society, Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation, Northern Supportive Recovery Centre, Baldy Hughes Therapeutic Community and Canadian Cancer Society. Selen supports these organizations personally as well as through his Canadian Tire business.

And for more than 30 years, Dix has organized, fundraised and coordinated the Cerebral Palsy Sports Association Branch. She has also committed countless hours to Volunteer Prince George, Prince George Crimestoppers, Canadian Red Cross, Prince George Seniors' Resource Centre, Meals on Wheels and the Prince George Community Foundation.

The awards honour individuals who have made a significant contribution either as volunteers or in the course of their work.
