A cigarette butt tossed into dry grass was blamed for the fire Sunday that destroyed a shop in the 10000 block of Old Cariboo Highway on Sunday afternoon.

More than 30 volunteer firefighters were called to the scene at about 3 p.m. and took about five hours to bring the blaze under control, according to Pineview Fire Chief Lyle Wood.

The shop was home to a number of vehicles, boats and trailers and the damage is estimated at $100,000 to $200,000, Wood said.

No one was injured but a few firefighters were treated at the scene for heat and over-exertion.
