This new age of technology really benefits readers of the Prince George Citizen who can now have their newspaper with them no matter where they are or where they go.

The digital edition - a full PDF version of The Citizen -- is now online and can be accessed from anywhere in the world, said Colleen Sparrow, regional circulation and distribution manager.

"The digital version is free to all newspaper subscribers as an added value feature. It allows subscribers to go on vacation and take The Citizen with them on their lap top or hand-held device," said Sparrow.

For non-subscribers it's available through a paid subscription. Simply go to The Citizen web site at www.pgcitizen.ca for a seven-day free trial. Subscriptions start at just $7.19 per month.

Since the digital version joined the internet in mid-February the site has attracted about 800 users.

"The response has been great even with very little promotion. It's especially popular with people who are going away, but want to stay in touch. Anybody can do that as long as they have access to the internet," said Sparrow.

"Our digital version offers a number of features such as adjustable print size, uploading to any hand-held device, and it will read the information to you in 12 different languages with the click of a button. This is the answer for those who have difficulty reading print," said Sparrow.

The system also allows access to back issues up to 30 days and offers search functions allowing readers to locate specific articles or stories.

A video tutorial is available on the web site that explains the steps and uses of the digital edition.
