A weekly learning and fitness series aimed at improving the health of those dealing with diabetes is set to kick off this September.

The Walk & Talk sponsored by the Canadian Diabetes Association is described as a self-management program to get its weekly participants "started on the right foot."

For 10 weeks starting Sept. 12, a speaker will present on various aspects of living with the disease and adopting healthy choices. After, walkers will follow different routes throughout Prince George for 40 to 50 minutes.

Boyanne Young, northern region coordinator, said the association is excited to offer the free program again.

"We encourage people to sign up and take some time to Walk & Talk with us in this exciting program," said Young in a press release of the Saturday sessions.

"Each week a different speaker will chat for a few minutes before the walk about a topic. Participants will also be encouraged to check in with each other as they work on their action plan to achieve their goals toward making healthier, realistic, and sustainable changes."

Young said she hopes for 70 people to sign up, as did for the spring session.

She already has at least 30 returnees and expects more.

"It is making a difference for many people who struggle with getting physically active," she said.
