MLAs and Canadian Cancer Society representatives will meet today to make an announcement "that will benefit northern cancer patients and their families," according to a written notice from the gathering parties.

"One in three British Columbians will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime, with about 22,000 new cancer patients in B.C. projected in 2011," the statement said. "More than 1,000 of these patients will reside in the North."

MLAs Shirley Bond and Pat Bell will be on hand with the Canadian Cancer Society officials at 1 p.m. at the Two Rivers Art Gallery. Continue to follow The Citizen for the details of the announcement as they are made available.
