The woman's body found Jan. 28 near Duncan has been officially identified as that of 18-year-old Tyeshia Jones who had been missing since Jan. 22.
Preliminary results by the BC Coroner Service confirm that the young woman was a victim of homicide, but specific details on cause of death and autopsy findings have not been released.
RCMP Cpl. Darren A. Lagan said from the early hours of the criminal investigation, officers believed the victim to be Tyeshia, and that her death involved foul play.
On Tuesday a core group of about 30 members, from about 100 searchers, remained focused on identifying the person or persons responsible for Tyeshia's murder. Additional police resources will continue to support the investigation, as needed. Police have not identified any suspect in relation to this murder.
Tyeshia was last heard from through a text message late at night saying she was walking to the Superstore in Duncan to meet a friend. The First Nations girl never showed up and was not heard from again.
