Deadly dope doppelganger could dupe druggies

An influx of Fentanyl, a powerful narcotic being sold for heroin, has found its way into the hands of drug dealers in the city, prompting Prince George RCMP to issue a warning.

The drug, which can be 100 more powerful than morphine, has the same colour, consistency and packaging as heroin and RCMP are worried illicit Fentanyl use could lead to overdose deaths.

A recent RCMP drug seizure in the city confirmed the substance as Fentanyl and police believe other quantities of the drug could still be available on the street to heroin users, who are being warned to take precautions.

RCMP have notified Northern Health about the problem.

Fentanyl is a synthetic analgesic also known by its brand names -- Sublimaze, Actiq, Durogesic, Duragesic, Fentora, Matrifen, Haldid, Onsolis, Instanyl, Abstral, and Lazanda.
