Daydream Donuts now located beside pot store

It was a happy accident the perfect new location for Daydream Donuts Café landed right beside the pot store and yes, they’ve heard all the jokes about being located next door to Grasshopper at 415 George Street.

It was a happy accident the perfect new location for Daydream Donuts Café landed right beside the pot store and yes, they’ve heard all the jokes about being located next door to Grasshopper at 415 George Street and they're good with that.

With names like Grape Coral Reef and Espresso Yourself, London Foggy Night, Root Beer Float, and Pumpkin Spice Oreo, you might think the clever turns-of-phrase would harken itself to those who went to the pot store first but nope. They’ve always had whimsical names for their delectable creations and will continue to offer high quality baked goods.

While most people have shortened the café’s name to Daydream Donuts, some are pleasantly surprised the little café’s staff offers a variety of soups and sandwiches made to order on the spot as well.

Owner Heather Saunby talked about the reason for the move and said there’s new ownership at their old building and there was some wiggle room in the existing leases. Then, of course, as it happens in downtown Prince George where merchants are always looking out for each other, they got word that 415 George Street across from the Ramada and beside Grasshopper Retail Inc. was available so it seemed like a win-win.

“We couldn’t not take advantage of this opportunity,” Saunby said. “It’s got such a great kitchen and even though the seating is limited, our customers were grabbing and going through Covid anyway so that’s mostly what our customers still do now. We’ve had no complaints and we’ve got lots of regulars who come down for soup or a coffee and donut and there’s one gentleman that comes in for soup every day and another person comes to have a coffee and donut every day, so that’s nice they’ve found us again. We're only nine days in here and we’ve decided to open an hour earlier so now customers can come in at 9 a.m. Monday to Saturday.”

The donut flavours change often and the owners love the holidays so be prepared for creative Halloween flavours and stay tuned for the Christmas-themed baked goods to follow shortly thereafter.

Daydream Donuts Café, 415 George Street, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pop by! You can’t miss it! Their signs will be up soon and just give the door beside Grasshopper a good tug to get in. For all the details you can follow them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/Daydreamdonutscafe.
