A 20-year-old Dawson Creek man was attacked twice and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, after being the subject of apparent vigilante attacks.

Dawson Creek RCMP received a report at 9:45 p.m. on July 12 about a man being attacked by vigilantes near a local business in Dawson Creek. Then on July 13 at 6:45 a.m., RCMP received another report of a man being assaulted at the intersection of 225 Rd. and Highway 97 in Arras, roughly six kilometres west of Dawson Creek.

“Investigators determined that the victim in both incidents was the same 20-year-old man. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries,” a statement issued by Dawson Creek RCMP said. “Police are actively investigating those incidents and the nature of those attacks on the victim. Initial information indicates that the victim was targeted as a result of unsubstantiated rumours posted on social media.”
