DAVIDsTEA will no longer be in Prince George, officially.

The company announced today (July 30) it is closing 166 retail stores in Canada, including its Pine Centre Mall location, a DAVIDsTEA spokesperson confirmed to PrinceGeorgeMatters.

"Over the years, Pine Centre Mall has enjoyed a wonderful relationship with David’s Tea and the unique products and services they provided," the mall said in an emailed statement. "While we are saddened by their decision to close, we wish them well for the future."

All 42 stores in the U.S. are also being closed.

In total, only 18 stores will reopen in Canada once cleared to do so with only one B.C. location. Many stores had closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The company says they also made the decision to close under the Companies' Creditors Agreement Act while adding the plan was to already significantly reduce its retail footprint. The pandemic sped up the process.

"Our stores have been the core of our DAVIDsTEA family since the beginning of our Company," a statement from the company reads. "Many of you got to know us by walking into one of our tea shops and speaking to our talented & inspiring Tea Guides. We have heard so many stories of your first experiences to your 100th, and everything in between. We absolutely loved being in our stores to share our love of tea with the community we created, together."

"But, how customers shop has continued to evolve and we want and need to adapt with you. The new retail landscape has forced us to re-evaluate how we can bring tea to our fans most efficiently."

DAVIDsTEA lovers can still purchase tea online or visit one of the remaining open stores in Canada.

"To our community: We remain committed to providing you with the best variety of loose-leaf tea and accessories through davidstea.com and our locations in Canada—no matter where we connect, we will make sure your experience is exceptional."

You can also talk with 'Tea Guides' that are available across the country every day on the company website from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
