It's a growing tradition.

The David Douglas Botanical Garden Society hosts its annual plant sale at UNBC on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There are hundreds of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vegetables, fruits, herbs, and specialty plants to purchase during the giant sale that takes place at the university's parking lot B.

"There's a new proven winner hydrangea called Zinfin Doll that has a dense bloom that starts white and turns pink," said Birthe Miller, plant sale coordinator, master gardener and member of the society since 2009.

"It grows between six to eight feet high and is rated for Zone 3 so it's a new one for this area."

Most of Prince George is Zone 3 or 4 depending on location, she added.

During the sale, plants will be placed in categories throughout the parking lot offering perennials, annuals, herbs, fruits and vegetables and also sectioned by suitability for shade, or a dry area and that sort of thing, said Miller.

During the sale there are master gardeners on hand to offer advice to home gardeners.

"And we probably have the biggest selection of tomatoes in Prince George with the most varieties to choose from," said Miller.

"Everything has been grown locally or over-wintered so that items become acclimatized to Prince George."

If people are not interested in purchasing plants, there's another alternative.

"I would like to invite people to go for a walk in the gardens because it's really nice with everything blooming right now," said Miller.
