A local business owner is daring others to step up for the community's less fortunate.
Tired of driving past the Salvation Army and doing nothing to help, First Litre Pub and liquor store owner Cam Thun and his family are donating $5,000 to the charity this afternoon - but they're not stopping there.
"Everyday I pass the Salvation Army on Ospika and I get very emotional to think that there are so many people right here in Prince George that need help," said Thun.
Thun has developed the Paying it Forward 5000 Club, a grassroots challenge to businesses and individuals to match his family's donation.
"Prince George has a big heart and the businesses of this community are always ready to respond to a challenge to meet the needs of those less fortunate," Thun said. "I want to extend that challenge now."
As an added bonus to the feeling of doing something for your community, the Thun family are creating a 5000 Club plaque to put contributors names on and each club member will receive a golf shirt and keeper plaque to show off.
"We want to help address the Salvation Army's ever increasing need for food for people," said Thun. "Paying it forward helps with your own well-being and state of mind knowing that you are helping your fellow man."
