The mother of the three children killed by Allan Schoenborn has died.

In a post shared to Twitter today (May 31), family spokesperson Dave Teixeira says Darcie Clarke passed away Thursday night (May 30).

Teixera doesn't get into the cause of death.

He requests that media respect the family's privacy, noting that no further comment will be made at this time.

Schoenborn killed his children — Kaitlyn, Max and Corden — at the family's home in Merritt in April 2008.

He was found not criminally responsible because of a mental disorder.

"Since her three children were murdered by Allan Schoenborn, Darcie has been an advocate of victim rights," Teixeria writes in his tweet. "Darcie had no peace over the last 11 years. Her family was tormented by an evil man, then an uncaring justice and Review Board system. My hope is Darcie's legacy will be we as a society care more for women, children, and victims of crime than a murderer and provide better support for those who suffer from mental illness. I hope Darcie's broken heart can now rest in peace."

Shoenborn has been at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coquitlam since his 2010 conviction of first-degree murder.
