A dangerous driver is in custody after evading police in a pickup truck Friday afternoon.

A 23-year-old Prince George man was expected to be charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer and causing a pursuit in court on Saturday.

Police received multiple calls about a pickup truck driving dangerously and erratically in downtown around 2 p.m. on Friday, according to a statement released by Prince George RCMP.

A short time later police officers spotted the suspect vehicle leaving downtown and attempted to stop the truck.

The driver, who appeared to be the lone occupant of the truck, failed to stop for the police officers. Because of the heavy traffic and erratic behaviour of the driver, the officers immediately stopped the pursuit.

Officers went to the home of the registered owner of the vehicle in the Hart area. When the truck arrived in the area, the driver drove straight at two marked police vehicles. The RCMP officers were able to evade the truck and avoid being hit.

The truck and driver were spotted at an address off Knight Crescent a short time later and police were able to take the suspect into custody, with some resistance. Police believe alcohol was a factor in the incident.

No injuries were reported in the various incidents.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incidents - especially video images -they are asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300.
