Repairs started on the Kispiox Valley Road Bridge on Thursday (Feb. 11).
As a result, this has altered the schedule nearby residents will be allowed to cross the structure during working hours for crews as they move forward on permanent repairs expected to be complete by late February or early March.
The bridge will be open for 20 minutes to single-lane alternating traffic at the top of every hour, followed by a 40-minute delay.
For example, at 9 a.m., the bridge will be open until 9:20 a.m. before reopening again at 10 a.m. for another 20-minute frame, and will stay open overnight, also to single-lane alternating traffic.
Light traffic is still only allowed to cross the bridge, located 15 km north of Hazelton or about 460 km northwest of Prince George, meaning vehicles that weigh no more than eight tonnes and don't exceed more than 2.5 metres in length.
Currently, the province says there's still no detour for heavier vehicles.
"The bridge remains open to pedestrians. People are asked to be cautious when crossing, especially near work crews and equipment," a statement from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure reads.
"Ministry engineers and crews are working around the clock to reopen the bridge to all traffic as quickly as possible."
On Feb. 4, the bridge was damaged by a vehicle incident involving a snowplow that temporarily cut off vehicle traffic from both sides.
Dawson Road Maintenance, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and Emergency Management BC are still working together in providing services that may be needed for residents in the area.
DriveBC has said its working on trying to clear an alternate route for heavier traffic.
