Conditions are critically dry, yet someone got a fire going on the cutbanks this weekend and firefighters had to scramble into difficult terrain to put it out.

Conditions are critically dry, yet someone got a fire going on the cutbanks this weekend and firefighters had to scramble into difficult terrain to put it out.

The blaze burned across a wide meadow on the western down-slope of the tall dirt cliffs overlooking the city. It was sparked on Saturday mid-afternoon on the eastern side of McMillan Creek about halfway up the landmark hills. It was not an easy area for fire crews to access, but they got there in time to keep it from launching into a full interface forest fire.
