The final meeting for the current School District 57 (SD 57) Board of Education will be held tonight (Oct. 30).
Board chair Tim Bennett and Sharel Warrington will stick around, as they were re-elected in the Oct. 20 election.
They’ll also be joined by three new trustees from Prince George and two from the rural districts.
Tomorrow is the last #sd57 Board meeting for this current board. Huge thank you to @HookerBrenda@TrusteeCable, Trish Perrin, Bruce Wiebe and Bob Harris for your service. We did a lot of good work together. #CityOfPG

But before the new board is sworn in on Nov. 6, the current board has some final things to address.
One of the things the board will be discussing this evening is the capacity problems at Duchess Park Secondary School.
Although Duchess Park has 25 fewer students than last year, the school is still over 100 students over capacity. Enrolment for this school year is 1,030 and the capacity of the school is only 900 students.
The board will also be talking about creating an “open learning space” at Vanway Elementary School.
This would be an outdoor learning space on the school grounds, and it has already received $20,000 in funding through an anonymous donation in the memory of a former teacher in the district.
The board will also be re-examining their winter weather policy.
The Prince George District Teachers' Association requested a revision to revise Policy “3541.35 Winter Weather” to provide the superintendent the authority to close schools when deemed necessary.
The request comes after severe winter road conditions in February 2018, and concerns about safety on the roads during severe weather.
To learn more about what will be discussed during the 7 p.m. meeting at 2100 Ferry Ave., you can view the agenda here.
The current trustees saying their goodbyes tonight are Trish Perrin, Tony Cable, Bob Harris, Brenda Hooker and Bruce Wiebe.
Ron Polillo, Trent Derrick, Betty Bekkering, Shuirose Valimohamed and Bob Thompson will be sworn in as the new board of education during the Nov. 6 board meeting.
