The president of the provincial Canadian Union of Public Employees group will be in town to decry the rising the use of core services reviews.

On Wednesday night, Barry O'Neill will discuss the negative impact these reviews have on communities at a public form at the Civic Centre.

Entitled City Services Under Attack, O'Neill said the event aims to bring awareness to review's flaws.

"The name core service review has become a trendy name for privatization, reduced services and the sale of city infrastructure," he said. "Community residents expect their elected officials to make decisions in the best interest of the community, not to line the pockets of consultants who make money by privatizing public services."

CUPE 1048 president Janet Bigelow said the event, which begins at 5 p.m., comes at a crucial time.

"Prince George city council is about to make some big decisions, decisions that could affect every resident in Prince George," she said. "We encourage residents to come out to this event to hear about the potential negative impacts of core services reviews."
