Cullen holding meeting on proposed tanker ban

MP Nathan Cullen will be in Prince George tonight as part of the Take Back Our Coast tour.

The NDP finance critic and MP for Skeena-Bulkley Valley is hosting an information session about the private member's bill he introduced last month to ban oil supertankers from B.C.'s North Coast.

"Enbridge will absolutely be a B.C. ballot box issue in 2015 and Conservative MPs hoping to keep their jobs really need to be thinking about doing what their constituents want, instead of what [Prime Minister Stephen] Harper wants," Cullen said in a press release.

"Conservatives have arrogantly refused to listen to the concerns of people in the northwest and across British Columbia. That spans the gamut from risks of crude tankers in our northern coastal waters to shutting communities out of the process, to failing to consider the impact on value-added jobs."

The proposed legislation is scheduled to be voted on in Parliament early next year.

The meeting takes place at the College of New Caledonia, room 1-306, at 7 p.m.
