A Prince George man has received a slight break on the lengthy sentence he was issued for two driving offences.

On Dec. 4, 2013, James Dean Albert, 46, was sentenced to 600 days for driving while impaired and to a consecutive term of 180 days for driving while prohibited under the criminal code for offences committed in April 2012.

Initially, Albert received credit for 24 days time served in custody prior to sentencing, so that the remainder of his sentence added up to 756 days.

But in a B.C. Court of Appeals decision issued this week, credit for time served was increased to 36 days, or 1.5 days credit for each day in custody prior to sentencing, meaning his jail term will be 12 days shorter.

A 10-year driving prohibition remains in place.
