Its spring, a time to open the windows, let some fresh air into the house, clean out cupboards and drawers and 'shred it'.
The Prince George Crime Stoppers Community Shred It event is back and on April 29, organizers are eager to shred your waste while helping prevent identity theft at the same time.
"This is our fourth time doing this. We hold one in the spring and one in the fall and the response just keeps growing," president of Prince George Crime Stoppers, Ron Polillo said.
In partnership with Shred-it Mobile Shredding Services and Walmart, Prince George Crime Stoppers will be providing an opportunity for the community to responsibly, safely and quickly shred personal or important documents.
"This is a great service where people who don't have enough paper for Shred-it Mobile can still get rid of what they have instantaneously," Polillo said.
"It's a way to prevent identity theft in a safe and secure way while helping support Crime Stoppers."
Crime Stoppers is a non profit program that is completely independent of law enforcement.
The goal is to empower all community members to fight back and report crimes anonymously.
Since 1976 Crime Stoppers has become the top community based crime solving organization in the world with 15 countries participating.
Anyone can anonymously submit a tip on the tip line or online, 24 hours a day.
If the tip leads to an arrest, the individual could receive an award up to $1,000.
For a minimum $5 donation, the Shred It event will take place on April 29 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot at 6565 Southridge Drive.
"We would like to thank those who come out regularly and bring new community members out. It gives us a chance to help the community and gives people the opportunity to help support us in our crime solving efforts," Polillo said.
If anyone has information about a crime that's been committed they can call the tip line at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be reported online.
