A wildfire appears to be developing off Highway 97 in the South Cariboo.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) reported the suspected lightning-caused blaze last night (Aug. 5) that can be seen from the main drag north of Clinton.
Two dozen firefighters and a water tender were assigned to the one-hectare blaze about eight kilometres northeast of the Village and near Chasm Provincial Park.
A helicopter remained in the area overnight to keep an eye on the fire.
The BCWS says there are no threats to structures or nearby communities at this time.
This is currently the only active wildfire within the Cariboo Fire Centre, while none, as of this publication, are being reported in the Prince George Fire Centre.
There are 30 active blazes across B.C., nine within the last two days.
The Moraine Creek wildfire, southeast of Terrace in the Northwest Fire Centre, is under control and stands at 0.1 hectares in size.

Airtankers have completed their mission for the evening; however, a helicopter remains on-site and may be visible from #BCHwy97. It will remain on site for the evening to help cool down the fire by providing bucket support. No structures are threatened at this time.
