A local youth injured in a single-vehicle crash on Blackwater Road is in serious but stable condition at university hospital, as of press time.
The collision occurred on Sunday morning at about 2:30 a.m. knocking out the electricity to that rural area west of the city, but was not discovered until closer to 4 a.m. when BC Hydro crews arrived and found the wreckage of a vehicle.
"General duty officers attended the scene and found a 2004 Pontiac coupe off the road and on its roof. A lone male was located nearby," said police spokeswoman Cpl. Madonna Saunderson. The victim was an 18-year-old Prince George resident.
"A search of the area with a police service dog did not locate any other occupants," said Saunderson. "Investigators believe that...the vehicle went off [the road] striking a guide wire for a power pole and causing the vehicle to roll. The single occupant, not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle."
Speed is believed to be a factor, said Saunderson, but it is not yet known if alcohol was involved. An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene to help figure out the cause of the incident. Blackwater Road was closed for a prolonged period during the initial investigation.
